Some skills are made for secondary professions. Martyr anyone?

But my "favorite" would be Second wind because it's a cure that makes the ailment worse.

Wrong.

Armor ignoring damage and a 2s recharge... seems somewhat like a monk discord, I wouldn't be too surprised if it got a buff and became a gimmick spike skill. As it is though... not a great skill.

A very fun skill to use in PvE, it's a quick res if someone critical (monk) goes down and needs to be brought up to hold the group together while you retreat. The long recharge hurts it alot, but I've always liked it.

Unless it was changed since release, iQ used retreat in a build with W/Rs to devastating effect.

I actually use that in combination with reapers mark sometimes. Removes lots of enchants, deals a nice splash to enemy minion packs and allows Talkhora to use RC on you to instantly heal the damage you took wile closing in.
You can use plague sending too.

It's flawed, but far from terrible.

It was the weekend Open Event for Germany Qualifying. From memory they ran two thumpers, and a W/R with said level 2 pet and a whole bunch of smiters.

Chilblains is pretty bad. But there is one type of player that makes good use of it: Those groups of monsters with a half a dozen copies of the thing who also cause extra damage from it because they cheat by having a higher level than you.

That's about the main reason it exists.

I would like to nominate that Extend Conditions skill as the absolute worst skill in the entire game, for anywhere in PvE or PvP. Elemental Flame (which needs to also do a little +damage when a hAx ends), Swirling Aura.... those things beat Extend Conditions into the dust in the realm of usefulness.

A 20 second recharge on extending (not reapplying, this ain't something to combo with Fragility, it sure isn't) the easiest to remove impediments in the game. Even having a team unload every condition in the game on one guy, I can not see it being worth a skill slot for this affect. Let alone an ELITE slot.

I'm open to ideas for it, of course. Just haven't heard any compelling ones yet.

Word of Censure is very nice for a smiter, a true smiter in PvE. There are not many smiting skills that do large damage with short recharge.

Deflect Arrows is good, in the right circumstances. It is very good on a W/Mo running build.

Visions of Regret is also a killer skill.... if you are going against adrenal mobs. The problem, along with many mesmer skills or others you are pointing out, is they are situational. You usually won't want to keep these skills on your bar at all times. They are specialty purpose or meant to have builds made around them.

I can see supportive spirit being very useful in the Arborstone mission. In that type of situation, I don't want your protection, I want your heal.

Think outside the box people, and don't just make knee-jerk reactions.

Wtf is everyones problem with Lightbringers Signet? Use that at r6-8 Lightbringer and you get 18-24 free energy with a 25s recharge.

There are much better things to use, but in terms of Energy gain... this is 1 of the best if used vs Demons obviously. Even Mantra of Recall/Energy Drain would only give ~10-14 energy minus the cost.

Its just theres usually no need to run it over a healing or offensive elite.

All i can think of atm is Word of Censure after reading page 1... that skill has no use.

[skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill] ftw!

Actually, Anet should not give monk this kind of direct damage spell. It should be a spell which can cause indirect damage and some protective effects, like [skill]reversal of damage[/skill].

Also, it is useless for a smiter even in pve or pvp, since [skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill] and [skill]Ray of Judgment[/skill] are far better in pve.

well...first off all, gettin 15,000 lightbringer points would take a while to get...and as you said just to be useful... right now even at r1, it is an ok skill. it being a signet gives u 9 free energy and adrenaline so ya its not a bad effect...

so true with WoC though ^^ yet another useless skill

well thats easy
[skill]Balthazar's Pendulum[/skill]
the cast time makes it kind bad for prevention and even so why waste your elite on somthing so situational they could at least give it some kind of better effect on the knockdown...

[skill]"Incoming!"[/skill]...its just a joke now (unless you can see the future that is)

Probably Zealous Benediction. It uses too much energy. Word of Healing is much better then this.

Most monks don't even need a healing skill! If they would all just run signet of midnight then they wouldn't ever feel any pressure!

Lawl. Warn me next time you're going to make a joke like that, I almost choked o.o

Try waiting until your target is under 50%hp, otherwise it's basically a Heal Other/Jamei's Gaze 'dupe' in elite form, which is still quite decent... but getting the maximum out of this skill will basically be a free HO/JG, can't beat that with WoH.

Personally, I hate the skill (doesn't mean I don't use it though), but a straight heal in the Protection Prayers line is just plain foul. Give Healing Prayers damage prevention or condition removal to at least make it a bit more viable again.

Incoming <- probably impossible to nerf even more
Elemental Flame <- you can try any combo but it's still bad

then their monks would just us Restore Condition or another one of the many condition removers of GW...

Anyway heres another one:
Shared Burden {Elite} (Mesmer)
For 3-14 Seconds, target foe and all nearby foes move 50% slower
Energy: 15 CT: 2 Recharge: 25

hm this skill is just a fancy elite for deep freeze...why waste ur elite slot on a skill that has less range than Deep Freeze...besides deep freeze can be used as a secondary because of the snare not the dmg...GoLE can lower that pesky 25 energy cost...but this skill is just a waste of an elite that shouldnt be needed at all...useless in pve boring in pvp...Deep Freeze ftw

Whoa I can't believe the amount of retardedness in this topic :|

Avarra already gave some nice pieces of comments but here's some more:

Frenzied Defense:
How does it suck. Use it as a Mo/W, keep prot spirit on yourself. Ha ha mr assasin, haha. Same goes for warriors, paragons, rangers and dervishes.

Pounce:
Use it with Rampage As One as a thumper, gg for people still trying to kite. You can also use Call of Haste

I agree on all of these though:

letsee... Otyugh's Cry, Revive Animal... hell, half the Beast Mastery skills are pretty useless... Strike As One, Scavenger's Focus, Archer's Signet, Marksman's Wager, Expert's Dexterity, Power Shot!...

Enchanter's Conundrum, Simple Thievery, Visions of Regret, Tease, Air of Disenchantment, Extend Conditions, Power Leech, Power Flux, Persistence of Memory... i'm gonna go ahead and say that pretty much all of the Mesmer nightfall elite skills are completely and utterly useless.

But seriously, Otyugh's Cry needs a nerf. Badly.
